Welcome to HeartLight Shelties, the home of my four companion Shelties.
They are a joy to have around with personalities to spare.
First, though
I have two token Border Collies, Newt and Kelley.
Next is Skyler from
Imperial Shelties
and Quest too. Then there is Termite, whose name will need some
explaining, from
Wistwin Shelties.
Last, but not least, is my tricolor boy, Chase from
Wellington Shelties.
Our
first Sheltie arrived in 1992 when my mom, whose now deceased, brought
home Piper. He became U-CD Bluebell's Highland Treasure CD, HTs, JHDs,
CGC/TDI. Piper opened the world of performance training and competing
for me. However, I must give my mom credit for getting Piper's CD on him
at the young age of 9 months. I had fun adding a U-CD to the front of
his name later. Piper also dabbled in herding and agility. He almost
finished his first agility title, but an injury ended that endeavor.
Still I was hooked on performance sports thanks to a lovely blue merle
Sheltie who lived until 12 years of age. He passed away February 13,
2004.
Skyler
was our next performance hopeful and then Quest followed soon after. I
worked them in agility and obedience with my best friend my mom, Sue
Worley, at my side. We had many a good time traveling together to shows
and agility trials. Skyler only needs one leg each on his CD and his NA.
When I stopped competing it was to care for my mom while she valiantly
battled cancer. Mom lost her fight with cancer September 10, 2003. I was
devastated. While I loved the dogs and cared for them daily, my desire
to compete was gone.
Thankfully, a new happier time has occurred in my life. It is Chase,
Wellington's Chase My Dust. He was a total surprise and he has once
again given me the desire to return to competition. I have already
started obedience training with Chase and he's only been here a little
over a week. I believe that God winked, so to speak, and Chase was given
to me. I now once again feel such joy whenever that little guy licks my
face with enthusiasm only a Sheltie can muster. I can hardly wait to be
able to compete with him and also hopefully finish Skyler's title in
obedience as well.
Right
now, I care for my dad who is 71 years old. He loves the dogs and helps
out with their care when I need an extra hand.
I
hope you will enjoy visiting each of the boyz' pages and seeing their
photos. Skyler was featured in the 2007 Keynote Specialties Sheltie
Calendar for the month of April. Maybe you saw his photo. My mom was the
one who pitched a small rock into the pond and caught Skyler's attention
while I snapped the photo. I'll always look at that photo and remember
mom with much fondness.
